Diversity and Inclusion Training

Commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) starts with self-awareness and education; it is then reinforced with communications and accountability. While there’s a responsibility for each of us to educate ourselves, organizations can accelerate learning and increase expectations by way of focused training and communications.

Our Diversity and Inclusion training work has a vertical element that is purely committed to the mission of DEI through very targeted diversity training and communications. What’s special about Exude is how we also approach the horizontal DEI training work – looking at how DEI can be threaded through all work.

Exude has a library of diversity and inclusion training modules that we can deliver for you or conduct a train-the-trainer so you team can deliver the content. Core modules are listed below (each are 2-hour virtual instructor-led trainings), and custom training can also be designed and delivered.

Delivery Methods

Our Training & Development (T&D) philosophy is built on the platform that we all have different learning styles and each of our solutions serves a different purpose. We also center our approach on a growth mindset. The three main T&D solutions we offer are:

  • A training class is as an approach with one teacher and <25 learners who participate in a very interactive, hands-on experience that could be a full-day in person or a 2.5-hour virtual session.
  • A town hall is an approach that can be streamed to all employees of an organization at once and has the option to be recorded. This includes an Exude expert plus the option for a panel of your leaders.
  • A coaching engagement is a one-on-one or small group development experience that meets twice a month for 45-minutes each and is a much more customized and personalized learning journey.

Core Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Courses

The following four core Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion training courses complement each other and when completed, drive awareness and behavioral change.

  • Foundational Diversity, Equity & Inclusion

This program is designed to create foundational knowledge and shared language that level sets your organization on the principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion. This Foundational DEI course is designed to build awareness and skill and to provide participants with tools and resources to support immediate application of learning the ingredients of an inclusive workplace culture.

    Key Objectives:

    • Define key terminology and distinguish between the concepts of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB)
    • Discuss the value of DEI for the organization and for individuals
    • Identify the main barriers to an inclusive workplace
    • Explore strategies to overcome inclusion barriers
    • Prepare a personal action plan for creating an inclusive workplace
  • Unconscious Bias

This program builds a more inclusive workplace by leveraging your awareness of unconscious biases and the many strategies to overcome them. This Unconscious Bias course offers participants the opportunity to learn the definition and origins of unconscious bias, learn how it may be identified in daily workplace interactions, and ways to mitigate biases and promote an inclusive environment.

Leaders have planned and unplanned moments every day that can grow inclusion in a business, the customer experience and the employee experience. Being inclusive and building an inclusive work culture asks all of us to be leaders that seek out these moments and intentionally decide if and how we can drive more equity, more justice and more belonging.

    Key Objectives:

    • Prioritize moments in the employee and customer experience lifecycles where inclusion matters most
    • Differentiate the influence and impact in key moments where inclusion is more or less present
    • Create moments of self-awareness to drive intentionality with where more inclusion can be injected and why
    • Build a culture of inclusive leadership by expecting more from your teammates and from yourself

Our Approach

Our approach to Diversity training is to meet our clients where they are in their journey and help them move toward a more inclusive workplace. We know that each organization has its own unique characteristics that need to be considered when thinking through and implementing a strategy so we begin by fully understanding the current culture before making recommendations for solutions.

Learner’s Experience

Exude’s training curriculum is interactive, activity-oriented and provides learners knowledge, skills, confidence and competence. Each session begins with an optional Pre-Session Assessment. This helps level set expectations with the participants and allows them to submit questions ahead of time. The group will then participate in an IceBreaker Activity to help them get acquainted and feel comfortable about sharing their thoughts. Most of the sessions will be facilitator-led content delivery, application and practice aligned to your core values and real-life action planning. All of these activities will provide participants with the resources and tools for application in the workplace.

Benefits of Diversity Training

There are several benefits to providing employees with diversity and inclusion training. These benefits include:

  • Attraction and retention of a diverse workforce. Employees with strong diversity and inclusion practices put them at the forefront in the race to find top talent.
  • Improvement of employee and organizational performance. Diverse workplaces outperform non-diverse competitors by 35%. Allowing employees to show up authentically at work helps them perform to the best of their ability and helps organizations increase their bottom line.
  • Increase in innovation and creativity. Individuals from diverse backgrounds are able to provide organizations with innovative ideas and different perspectives.
  • Improvement of brand. More and more organizations are requiring that their business partners and providers are meeting certain levels of diversity. In some instances, in order to grant business to a partner, organizations are requiring that employers have diverse workforces that are trained to be culturally sensitive.
