During an employee benefits consulting engagement for a large manufacturing company, we identified higher than average utilization for Emergency Room visits and muscle injury prescriptions. Instead of simply adjusting the client’s prescription strategy, our organizational health approach led us to dig deeper into the root-cause of the issue.
Understanding that risk management and employee benefits are mutually reinforcing our additional research revealed faulty work procedures and an opportunity to improve risk management practices.
We analyzed current business processes and procedures and found the work environment was contributing to injuries. This led us to develop a more comprehensive workers compensation strategy that included a focus on wellness and ergonomics.
As a result of the risk management and safety programs, there was a 15% reduction in medical prescription utilization and 10% reduction in workers compensation, without having to change the prescription coverage for employees.
